Abid Hussain Thangal was born on 29th May 1960 in Vadakkangara, Malappuram district, Kerala, into the family of the late K.K.S. Thangal, a former MLA, and Smt. Ummachutty K.T. He completed his education with an M.A. and M. Phil. and worked as a professor and head of the Sociology department at Farook College, Calicut, which laid the foundation for his analytical and leadership abilities.
